COFE +

CoFe+ specializes in fully automated robotic cafes and has successfully expanded throughout Asia and Europe. Now aiming to enter the North American market, they seek a brand-new UI/UX design for their mobile ordering app.

Feature Redesign

Web & Mobile Platform

The Goal

In this project, the goal was to help CoFe+ enter the North American market with a standout mobile ordering app that would attract users to their automated coffee machines.

1

Timeline

March 2024 - June 2024

2

My Role

As a UX designer, I am working on redesigning the user flow, integrating new features, and updating the brand identity to refine the ordering process and create a delightful robotic coffee ordering experience.

3

Deliverables

Mobile App Key Screens + Brand IP design

How can we break the norm of a typical coffee app and still make it fun?

After some research, what we found:

  • What users want: Market research revealed that users appreciate a personalized preferences, a simple interface, and aesthetically pleasing designs.

  • Target users: Primarily young professionals and tech-savvy individuals who value convenience, personalization, and engaging digital experiences. The robotic coffee kiosks will be also placed in high-traffic locations such as airports, rail stations, hospitals, expos, and events that attract this target group.

This actually resonate my assumptions that there is room for a memorable and playful experience in a coffee ordering app.

"Great, love the idea, and can you also design a IP character for it? A little robot or something?"

Creating an IP character to bridge the gap between robotic and human baristas was a great idea, but the client specifically requested a character with a robotic arm.

The challenge was to design it in a way that doesn’t look outdated or too childish, and to ensure it doesn’t reinforce the perception that machines are replacing human baristas.

To tackle this, I led the redesign of the branding identity design.

The main focus of the ideation in this project is the identity redesign, aimed at creating a refreshing and engaging experience. This approach links directly to our product without trying to reinvent the wheel in a coffee ordering app.

1:

Overall brand identity

I brainstormed and sketched character ideas inspired by the actual robotic machine, and I turned the “robotic arm” request into a more, modern graphic style. This design reflected the hardware’s look without focusing too much on the robotic aspect, ensuring it stayed consistent with the brand’s aesthetic.

2.

IP integration via the app

Subtly integrating the character within UI elements to avoid distracting users.

3:

Animation in customzaition page

I optimazed a feature for the drink customization page where users can see real-time animations of the IP character adding or removing ingredients. This animation was designed to enhance the user experience while keeping the focus on the app’s primary function.

Great! like the idea, what about some ip design?

Says by the clients.
